Festival di giornalismo per bambini: Al via Internazionale Kids a Reggio Emilia

At via Internazionale Kids in Reggio Emilia, the first Italian journalism festival for girls and boys, which returns from 10 to 12 May.

The initiative, now in its fourth edition, is promoted by the eponymous monthly magazine that brings to Italy the best of the international press for readers between 7 and 13 years old. A programme full of events in an area, that Reggiano, which continues to commit itself to the education of young people and the promotion of active citizenship.

Piazza dei Martiri on 7 July at the heart of the festival. "I am proud to announce the fourth edition of International Kids in Reggio Emilia, the festival of the monthly of the same name organized by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Internazionale and Fondazione Palazzo Magnani. Three days, 10, 11 and 12 May, of meetings and discoveries dedicated to an audience of girls and boys from 7 to 13 years old, an age group that I believe needs special care and attention. With them we will talk about rights, sports, environment, stereotypes, music, comics and much more. The venues of the festival will be the Teatro Cavallerizza, the Palazzo dei Musei, the Teatro Valli, the Chiostri di San Pietro and the Mapei Stadium. But not only: the novelty of this year is that we will also be in Piazza Martiri on July 7, which will be a bit' fulcrum of the festival, and which will be animated by meetings, workshops and cultural actions of quality, all free. The public space will thus become a performative space, a connector between the buildings of which the city is composed and the life that takes place daily in it, to develop an increasingly widespread culture. The program is very rich in appointments: it starts on Friday morning with a preview dedicated to the schools of the city, which will be attended by almost 390 pupils and their teachers, and two classes of a school in Genoa, that for the second year in a row comes on trip to Reggio Emilia to participate in the festival. Oh I forgot...in the square you will find a real meadow! We are waiting for you" said Annalisa Rabitti, Councillor for Culture, Territorial Marketing, Equal Opportunities and Cities without Barriers.

A lens to read the world. "Many themes and even more places in the city involved for this fourth edition of the festival of International Kids - say Martina Recchiuti and Alberto Emiletti, journalists of International Kids at the helm of the event - Also this year the goal remains to offer children and their families a lens through which to read and understand better the world around us. From feminism to wars, from the environment to technology, the festival will bring the great themes of current affairs to young audiences. We will discover together how to travel in a more sustainable way, the beauty of all different bodies and reveal many curiosities about the world of information. Once again we hope that the festival is also an opportunity to meet, exchange opinions and get to know a beautiful and hospitable city".

Themes and places. Organized by Internazionale Kids, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani, the three days dedicated to journalism for children will be a journey through the great themes of information, from feminism to environment, from rights to economy, From politics to technology, with a focus on current events. An itinerary that uses different languages to offer fun and educational opportunities, including workshops, podcasts, shows, movies, books, comics, games and much more. The venues of the festival will be the Cavallerizza Theatre, the Palace of the Museums, Piazza Martiri on 7 July, the Valli Theatre, the Cloisters of San Pietro and the Mapei Stadium.

Not to be missed on Friday. Among the events not to be missed How to become a writer, a meeting to discover the charm of writing and the magic of inventing stories, with the journalist and writer Luigi Garlando, interviewed by the bookseller of the Ottimomassimo library in Rome, Deborah Soria, who curates book reviews on Internazionale Kids. The event is in collaboration with the Foundation for Sport of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. Friday afternoon will close with the show Monsieur René - Gardien de notes, organized in collaboration with Palazzetto Bru Zane - Centre de musique romantique française, where a conductor tells how you can read music in everything. The evening program of the festival includes two screenings: on Friday the best animated short films from the Imaginaria festival in Conversano and on Saturday Sgranate gli occhi, the photographic reports from all over the world published last year on the monthly.

Laboratories. Space also for the laboratories. Do not miss those in collaboration with Fondazione Pianoterra that will put the young public to the test with the world of images. Pixilation, dedicated to animation cinema, and Stop! Now you play to discover the secrets of stop motion, both in collaboration with Zalab and the foundation Pianoterra. Thanks to the collaboration with E 80 Group and Valorugby Emilia, at this year’s festival also two workshops to build and program a small robot. To enrich the offer, also the workshops run by the Educational Services of the Civic Museums with the activity Silent steps, night glances, on the tracks of the inhabitants of the night and Zone d'ombra, to be inspired by the shots of Luigi Ghirri. A scavenger hunt by Remida, in search of seemingly worthless objects that together will be used to build a museum of useless things. To then enter the center of Reggio Emilia following the footsteps of a peacock, a gargoyle and a ram, will be the 'magic' walk of Enchanted Animals, the initiative promoted by I GiraReggio, collective of Reggio Emilia City without Barriers, to discover the city center and get to know the many animals that live there. And still, in the spaces of the Cloisters of San Pietro will take place other activities including: What taste are you? an opportunity to perceive the taste through the eyes, ears and body and build your own sound recipe thanks to the Octostudio app, curated by PAUSE - Atelier dei Sapori. Nature loves to hide, a guided tour of the European Photography festival to discover how the relationship between humans and nature can be told by art, in collaboration with Fondazione Palazzo Magnani within the framework of European Photography. And finally, the wisdom of the crowd, curated by Digital Freaks,to solve together a challenge or a problem of society.

Also. This year you can participate in a table football or ping pong tournament, play chess or checkers, rest or browse a book on a deck, or, thanks to the collaboration with Paradello Green, even walk barefoot on a real lawn, offered by Paradello Green. But that’s not all, at Internazionale Kids in Reggio Emilia it will be possible to visit an exhibition that questions stereotypes and "the way we have always done things", realized with the support of the Swedish embassy. Finally, to take notes, draw and write interviews there will be notebooks and pens made of recycled paper for all children, offered by Tetra Pak.
