Pause – Atelier dei Sapori
Pause is the research lab of Fondazione Reggio Children dedicated to taste and wellbeing, where the relationship with food, starting from the experience of the kitchens in the Preschools and Infant-toddler Centres of Reggio Emilia, becomes multisensory and creative.

Re-focussing the attention on correct eating habits, on the use of products and raw materials and on zero waste sustainable consumption is the basis for the awareness we need to have about nutrition and collective wellbeing.
The project Pause – Atelier dei Sapori aims to propose a creative approach to nutrition education, being aware of the strong impact of good nutrition on children’s and adults’ health.

Starting from the experience of the kitchens of the Municipal Infant-toddler Centres and Preschools of Reggio Emilia, Pause promotes a culture of food by putting people aged 0-99 years at the centre of the community.
In the ateliers and workshops proposed by Pause a new literacy on food and products of the land is put into practice. Along with cooks, atelieristas and researchers, children and adults develop their learning processes around taste, enjoying unknown flavours and rediscovering stories and ancient recipes. Together we can build up new experiences and share knowledge between different food cultures.

With more than ten consultancy and research projects underway, Pause has launched participatory and interdisciplinary paths with important partners at national and international level.
From the rediscovery of a typical food of a specific geographical area to strengthen the sense of community, to the promotion of a dialogue among Italian schools abroad; from the exploration of the five senses of taste, to the construction of a prototype of a travelling atelier to spread the culture of healthy and sustainable food starting from schools: at the centre of Pause we have people, communities, their stories and traditions, in an approach open to solidarity, sharing and innovation while respecting cultures and nature.
