Councillor Curioni: "In the face of a government that prevaricates, Reggio Emilia, as always, takes the field." President of the Istituzione Nidi e Scuole d'infanzia, Venturini: "Two different actions agreed upon to support our sister schools."
With the start of the new school year, the Reggio Emilia education system is launching a number of solidarity initiatives in favour of the infant-toddler centres and preschools in the municipalities of Cesena, Cattolica and Modigliana. With the initial emergency phase over, the effects of the flood are still unfortunately well and truly present, and it is necessary to ensure that the girls and boys in these areas have the right to continue to have experiences of play, discovery and learning in welcoming and quality environments.
Starting today, September 15, the fundraising solidarity campaign begins, which will involve all schools 0-6 in the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and will see its educating communities active, as well as targeting the city itself.
THEY SAID – “It's an important fundraiser that originates from the schools," tells Reggio Emilia Municipality Councillor for Education Raffaella Curioni, "and we are certain that it will be able to give a beautiful response of solidarity and closeness to the children of those territories hit by a devastating disaster. Territories, unfortunately, still left alone by the government that prevaricates and does not give concrete answers that would instead be necessary. Reggio Emilia, as always, takes the field to help those communities get back on their feet."

"The timing of reconstruction after a major disaster is never short, and this time it is not only because of objective problems but also because of the slowness of government decisions,- says the president of the Istituzione Nidi e Scuole d'Infanzia, Gigliola Venturini. - After the generous, immediate outpourings of solidarity shown by so many to the devastated Romagna, now is the time to act, assuring those who have been affected that they will not be left alone. This is what we are going to do, standing by the the infant-toddler centres and preschools of Modigliana, Cesena and Cattolica, in a concrete way, with a fundraiser for the municipal nursery school 'Ippodromo' in Cesena and with educational/pedagogical co-design and atelier interventions, together with educators and teachers from Modigliana and Cattolica, to offer their children keys to interpreting the natural upheaval they have witnessed. Two different actions agreed upon with administrators and teachers, the substance of which confirms the commitment of the Reggio Emilia educational services community to every girl and boy and to support our sister schools."
PEDAGOGICAL COLLABORATION TO OVERCOME TRAUMAS - The fundraiser will specifically benefit the City of Cesena to restore courtyard play areas and outdoor infrastructure damaged by water and mud.
Alongside fundraising, the Reggio Emilia education system has launched, together with the municipalities of Cattolica and Modigliana, a pedagogical co-design of workshops and ateliers that will foster children's processing of the traumas they have experienced, starting with the difficult questions that girls and boys ask themselves during very serious events, such as those that have affected Romagna.
