"PER", a world tour to promote the relationship between play and learning with Fondazione Reggio Children and Lego Foundation

A world tour to promote the relationship between the right to play and the right to learn for all, together with the right to quality education. This is the objective of the project PER Play, Explore, Research by Fondazione Reggio Children, born from the educational experience of Reggio Emilia, with The LEGO Foundation, which as a funder made this project possible.

The PER Play, Explore, Research project will start from Italy with a double event in Reggio Emilia on 16 and 17 November at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre. It will be the first of seven international conferences to be held in two years on five continents, with events in Europe, South America, North America, Africa, Oceania and Asia.

The meetings dedicated to teachers, educators, researchers, parents and policy makers will be followed by experiences and workshops, publications and projects to combat educational poverty, raise awareness and spread the importance of the relationship between play and learning.  

A project that aims to dialogue with education systems around the world, moving in harmony with Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all".

The launch of the project at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre in Reggio Emilia includes on Thursday, 16 November, from 5.30 pm, interventions by Luca Vecchi, Mayor of Reggio Emilia and President of Anci Emilia-Romagna, Carla Rinaldi, President of Fondazione Reggio Children, Sidsel Marie Kristensen, CEO of The LEGO Foundation, Vanna Iori, Istituto Toniolo - former full professor of Pedagogy at the Catholic University of Milan and Mitchel Resnick, LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research at the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, director of the Lifelong Kindergarten research team, member of the Scientific Committee of the Reggio Children Foundation. With Lifelong Kindergarten he created Scratch, the world’s most popular children’s programming language.

The meeting will be moderated by Eugenio Bruno, journalist, Sole 24 Ore.

The next day, Friday, November 17, at 5 pm, also at the Malaguzzi International Center, Professor Resnick and the research group Lifelong Kindergarten will present to teachers, educators and parents, for the first time in Italy their new programming app, free and aimed at the youngest, OctoStudio, which will offer a new creative learning experience on mobile through play. The presentation will be followed by workshops for the public of teachers, educators and researchers, who will be the first to experience the new possibilities of the app.
