Remaking the world: the 18th edition of Reggionarra is coming

The storytelling festival returns to Reggio Emilia from May 24 to May 26, 2024, with preparatory events in the city and province as early as May 20

Events and shows, companies and artists fill the places of the city and, this year, also of the province with fantastic stories, to begin remaking the world starting from the choice of words.

«Andiamo a rifare il mondo / serviranno le parole brave / le parole forti / le parole verdi. / servirà il silenzio delle foreste, il pensiero / di tutte le teste. / Serviranno giorni / serviranno mani / serviranno la rabbia / di oggi, e la pace / di domani». Ilaria Rigoli

«Let's go and remake the world / we will need good words / strong words / green words. / it will take the silence of the forests, the thought / of all the heads. / It will take days / it will take hands / it will take the anger / of today, and the peace / of tomorrow". Ilaria Rigoli

Reggionarra borrows the verses of Ilaria Rigoli, poet and writer, who titles her collection A rifare il mondo (To remake the world) (Bompiani Editore).

Not a small task, the one posed by this 18th edition which will open on Monday, May 20 with a series of preparatory events that will involve both the city of Reggio Emilia and the municipalities of Castelnovo Sotto, Albinea, Rubiera, Quattro Castella and San Polo d'Enza.

Reggio Children Foundation - Loris Malaguzzi Centre will also organize a preparatory event, as will the decentralized libraries of Santa Croce, San Pellegrino and Ospizio.

The weekend will be kicked off by the big parade on Friday, May 24, starting at 5pm from Piazza Fontanesi in Reggio Emilia, led by a strange couple made up of the Great Gentile Dragon from the last edition, accompanied by his friend, a small yellow Hummingbird, another key figure of this edition, who in the fairy tale dedicated to him becomes a symbol of our commitment to building a better world.

And for the first time, narratives and stories travel beyond national borders to reach South Africa!

We welcome Africanarra: from May, 24 to May, 26 at the same time as Reggionarra, South African schools inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach will also join in a special weekend of storytelling promoted by Africa Reggio Emilia Alliance, the South African partner of our International Network.
