Discovering the present of Santa Croce and the history of Reggiane with the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani

4 geo-explorations to get to know one of the major national cases of urban regeneration

Fondazione Palazzo Magnani is proposing four interactive walks guided by Antonio Canovi, historian of memory and lecturer at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, to explore the processes of change that have made the historic district of Santa Croce a European hub of services and functions of great potential today.

The first took place on Sunday 20 October from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., with an in-depth discussion on ‘The projection north of the city at the time of the industrial revolution’: Antonio Canovi took the participants through the railway subway, then the new Piazzale Europa and the Skate Park, the Locatelli buildings now the Malaguzzi International Centre, to linger over the murals of the local Circolo Pistelli and arrive through Via Bligny and Viale Ramazzini, in Via Gioia where the walk ended in front of David Tremlett's permanent work, The Organ Pipes, a complex of 13 large painted silos symbolising the regeneration of a reality today based on education and the spirit of community aggregation.

The international artist's work can also be seen on the adjacent façade of the former Caffarri, a disused feed factory located in the northern area of the city and housing Fondazione Reggio Children, Remida Creative Recycling Centre, The Lego Foundation, MaMiMò Theatre Centre and a boxing gym.
