The activities of Remida and Fondazione Reggio Children begin at the former Caffarri

Once the work and set-up have been completed, activities willnow begin in the regenerated spaces in the former Caffarri entrusted to Fondazione Reggio Children, which will host special events over the next few days. After the relocation of the Remida-Centro di Riciclaggio Creativo headquarters to Via Gioia, meetings and workshops will be held from Thursday, 19 September, concluding on Saturday afternoon, 21 September, with theopening of the spaces to the city and a party together with the Santa Croce neighbourhood. Also active at the former Caffarri are the projects scintillae-play and explore in the digital age and PER with The LEGO Foundation, as well as the PhD in Reggio Childhood Studies with Unimore.

"The artisans of knowledge are giving life to the space that was once the Reggiane carpenter's workshop and feed mill, the former Caffarri. A place that vibrates around the concept of regeneration, the one born from the passion of differences, where meeting means having the courage to change, thus giving a new meaning to things, to others, to oneself and to life. -says Carla Rinaldi, president of the Reggio Children Foundation - Living in this space does not just mean moving one's belongings, but opening one's mind to new thoughts, especially in the field of ecology in the contemporary and digital age, and meeting new contexts and new stories. This is what Remida proposes to us during these three days, starting from the value of matter, reuse and waste, and it is a necessary mission, to which all the other projects of the Reggio Children Foundation look at, because from here we project our educational research more and more towards solidarity between communities and alliance with the living."

The project for the reuse of the Reggio Children Foundation compartment in the former Caffarri, presented last March, was coordinated by STU Reggiane with architect Annalia Immovilli of Officine Urbane. During the summer months, Fondazione Reggio Children oversaw the implementation of the interior design part according to the design by MPA Architects, with architect Mattia Parmiggiani , and Total Tool Srl, with architect Giulio Ceppi, with the involvement of Frederic Argazzi, Studio Bunker, regarding the design of the environmental graphics. The vision that permeated the intervention to inhabit the spaces was to make the historic building an impermanentenvironment, in which a lounge area for reception, spaces for workshops according to research projects or for seminars and conferences, the area dedicated to Remida's activities together with a large warehouse, an immersive space and the study and research environment for doctoral and post-doctoral students in Reggio Childhood Studiesmeet. The set-up was financed by The LEGO Foundation.

NEW HEADQUARTERS FOR REMIDA, MEETING REMIDA IN THE WORLD

Remida has already started the activities of welcoming groups from all over the world, workshops and the distribution of waste materials at the former Caffarri. The modalities and timetables are the same, reservations are required both for visits and workshops, and for the distribution of materials.

On the occasion of its reopening in its new premises in Via Gioia, Remida, the Creative Recycling Centre, a project of the Istituzione of Preschools and Infant-toddler Centres of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and Iren, managed by the Reggio Children Foundation, offers an approach path to materials addressed to educators, teachers, curious people, with voices of experts and practical activities, to imagine together a philosophy of ecological education. Remida is a project that is part of the educational system of Reggio Emilia and for the genesis of which the dialogue with the culture of Infant-toddler Centres and Preschools was fundamental. At the centre of the events over the next few days will be working with materials to provoke questions and learning in children, and training the ecological thinking of adults thanks to materials as objects of research.

Thursday 19 September will see the meeting of the national and international Remida Network, the first in Reggio Emilia after the lockdown. All the Remida Centres eager to exchange experiences from Milan, Turin, Genoa, Calderara di Reno (Bologna), Borgo San Lorenzo (Florence), Varese, Naples, Vaggeryds (Sweden), Trondheim (Norway), Perth (Australia) and Buenos Aires (Argentina) will be present.

Friday 20 September sees the first of two training days on Remida materials, by registration only, also in streaming and English, ‘Materials as an educational resource’, for educators, educators and teachers of schools of all levels. Local experiences will be presented together with Istituzione Scuole e Nidi d'Infanzia and Iren accompanied by workshops. The Councillor for Educational Policies Marwa Mahmoud will bring the Municipal Administration's greetings. OnSaturday morning 21 September, a seminar on the topic will be held with experts on sustainability and regeneration:Paolo Di Napoli, trainer and scientific popularizer, Alessandra Augelli, researcher in Social Pedagogy at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Annaclaudia Martini and Daniel A. Finch-Race, researchers in Human Geography at the University of Bologna.

THE CAFFARRI EXPLORATION OF SCINTILLAE AND SCUOLA DIFFUSA

"You can create in here! ’ said the girls and boys who have explored the Caffarri spaces in recent months together with scintillae-play and explore in the digital age. For Play Explore Research and scintillae, projects of the Reggio Children Foundation and The LEGO Foundation, also inhabit the workshops in Via Gioia. Scintillae began in the spring of this year to meet the still empty space with children from the neighbourhood schools to discover its identity and potential together. The atmosphere of the place captured their curiosity and imagination, in an exploration conducted as part of Scuola Diffusa, a municipal project coordinated by Officina Educativa. Four primary school classes took part: Pascoli (V A), Boiardo (IV B), Gavasseto (IV A), Don Lorenzo Milani (II C).

NEIGHBOURHOOD PARTY SATURDAY FROM 4 P.M. - PROGRAMME

On Saturday 21 September, from 4 to 8 p.m., the Neighbourhood Party open to all will be held in the courtyard and interior spaces of the former Caffarri and will be animated by the realities that inhabit the former fodder factory and those active in the neighbourhood.

This is the programme: from 4 to 5 p.m. workshop ‘What is a silo?’ for children aged 7 and up with Fondazione Reggio Children and from 5 to 6 p.m. for children aged 3 and up with Remida. 4-7 pm info point of Fondazione Palazzo Magnani ‘Waiting for David Tremlett’. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.: ‘Tea for you’, a workshop by Pause Atelier dei Sapori, ‘Little carpentry’, a workshop by the San Giovanni Bosco social cooperative, and "Travelling readings ’ storytelling with the Santa Croce Library by Nati per Leggere.
