The Charter on Quality Education and Educational Emergency

On Monday 7 November, Centro Internazionale Loris Malaguzzi - Reggio Emilia will host the launch event of the new Charter of Values of Fondazione Reggio Children

In a very crucial moment, after the pandemic consequences and the increase of the educational emergency and school dropout, Fondazione Reggio Children will hold the event: “Quality Education, a Global Challenge” at Centro Internazionale Loris Malaguzzi of Reggio Emilia on Monday 7 November 2022 from 10,30 a.m. to 12,30 a.m.


President Carla Rinaldi will present the Charter "Quality Education, a Global Challenge", which Fondazione Reggio Children has drawn up and adopted as its own Charter of Values. The Charter comes after the first ten years of the life of Fondazione Reggio Children, during which it has measured itself with research, solidarity and quality education projects in the field of fighting educational poverty.

The Piepoli Institute with the Vicepresident Livio Gigliuto will present the results of an opinion poll carried out on behalf of Fondazione Reggio Children on the idea of childhood and quality education according to Italian people. Leading voices, founders and partners of Fondazione Reggio Children such as Mayor of Reggio Emilia, Anci Welfare delegate and President of Anci Emilia-Romagna, Luca Vecchi, President of the Manodori-Acri Foundation, Romano Sassatelli, Scientific Committee of the Reggio Children Foundation, Sen. Graziano Delrio, Reggio Emilia Institutet of Stockholm, board member of Fondazione Reggio Children, Harold Göthson, Managing Director Enel Cuore Onlus, Filippo Rodriguez, and Advocacy Manager Italy-Europe of Save the Children, Arianna Saulini

"The pandemic has increased the educational emergency, which affects students of all levels, from 0 to 24 years old," says Carla Rinaldi. "Unfortunately, the emergency can no longer be considered an anomaly, but a permanent status. Education is the answer that helps us face all emergencies, because community finds answers through education, research, and collective elaboration'.


"We are launching an appeal with this Charter 'Quality Education, Global Challenge' as a response to educational emergency," continues Rinaldi. "We explain what quality education is for us and say that we need to start again from the rediscovery of childhood.


The Charter "Quality Education, a Global Challenge", is rooted in the educational experience of Reggio Emilia in dialogue with the research and solidarity projects in which Fondazione Reggio Children has set up and participated: from Fare Scuola with Enel Cuore Onlus, to Face-Farsi Comunità Educanti with Con I Bambini as part of the Educational Poverty Alleviation Fund, to Peace between Cultures with k-14 school Manzoni of Reggio Emilia, to Scintillae with Lego Foundation, to Pause - Atelier dei Sapori, to Pedakos in Kosovo with Reggio Terzo Mondo, and many others.

The Charter “Quality Education, a Global Challenge” affirms the fundamental role of education, and quality education, in emergencies, educational and otherwise, due to the most diverse causes in the world: health emergencies such as pandemics, political, social, economic, fodd, climate, war, which primarily affect children.

The text, which will be pubblished and shared online, seeks to make a contribution to the reflection on quality education, childhood culture, educational emergency, looking in particular at the world of schools, education, welfare and public institutions, national and international
