The 5th edition of CNAPPC and FRC’s Abitare il Paese project was presented in Rome

Rome, 10 March 2023. The fifth edition of the project "Living in the country - The culture of demand" carried out by the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators and the Foundation Reggio Children-Centre Loris Malaguzzi and which has as theme  "Activating educational communities: new generations for a future project".

A focus, this, which aims to continue the research on visions of the city of the future by inviting the/ i girls/ girls/ i along with adults, architects,  tutors, teachers, administrators, citizens to activate reflections and actions to build or renew the educational communities of their territory.

All this in the awareness of the important role of the School as a concrete center of participation in the life of the country to achieve, through a rethinking of the conditions of cities and territories, a better quality of life.

 "This renewed dialogue between Architecture and social inclusion and solidarity that the project "Abitare il Paese" has achieved over the years - stressed Francesco Miceli, President of the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators (CNAPPC) - emphasizes the fundamental role of urban quality for community life and, at the same time, the awareness that children and young people are today’s citizens with their visions, their expectations, their projects. As he puts it on the role and social function of architecture".

 "With this vision the School - continued -   becomes the driving force of a new way of living cities and territories to transform, through a participatory action, our environment and make sure that all components of society work to realize new practices". 

For Carla Rinaldi, President of the Reggio Children-Centre Foundation Loris Malaguzzi, in this and the next edition of Abitare il Paese, "the school has rediscovered the city as an educational community. With the projects of "Abitare il Paese. The culture of demand" public space and green public have become protagonists again to be involved in both the relationship and quality learning, lived in presence, collectively, beyond the isolation of lockdown. Places to regain and regenerate that become necessary to live the dimension of citizenship. Thanks therefore to this large educational community of architects, teachers and children, from north to south of the country, which, with the project of CNAPPC and Fondazione Reggio Children, is keeping alive a hope for the future".

"Inhabit the country the country. The culture of demand" has involved in these 4 editions about 6 thousand students - among children and young people -. It took life on the national territory, through a fruitful collaboration between the CNAPPC and the Reggio Children’s FoundationCentro Loris Malaguzzi and a dense work of comparison and training between the architects referents of the 105 territorial orders of the PPC architects and the tutors, also architects, identified in the same provinces by the same orders.

The Project has not stopped even during the epidemiological emergency and the closure of schools, giving life, through distance learning, new experiences related to a necessary rethinking of our cities in terms of safety, social exchanges, sharing public spaces in a daily life that has changed profoundly and which children and young people have experienced first-hand.
