Presentation to the city of the new spaces at the Ex Caffarri dedicated to education, sustainability and research entrusted to Fondazione Reggio Children

Saturday, March 23, 2024 presentation to the city of new spaces regenerated Ex Caffarri a few steps from the International Center Loris Malaguzzi and Reggiane Innovation Park. Spaces that will be dedicated to education, sustainability, research.

The former Caffarri, a complex that was once productive and industrial, in the Santa Croce district, has been included by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia in the urban regeneration projects developed in recent years by STU Reggiane spa.

The refurbished spaces that will be presented on Saturday concern the first phase of recovery and will be managed by Fondazione Reggio Children-Centro Loris Malaguzzi, which, starting next autumn, will host its own research laboratories, such as P.E.R. and Scintillae with The LEGO Foundation, the Reggio Childhood Studies Doctorate with Desu-Unimore and the activities of Remida, the Creative Recycling Centre, that from the new school year it will move its headquarters here and that is a project of Institution Schools and Children’s Homes of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Iren and Fondazione Reggio Children.

After the redevelopment, the spaces will now be set up to welcome children, students, young people, families, citizens, who want to find the alphabets of fantasy, to create and play together.

 The program on Saturday, March 23 at the former Caffarri, in via Flavio Gioia 24, includes an institutional presentation, activities reserved for schools and explorations of materials aimed at the public. All initiatives are free to enter.

Free visit of the spaces with possibility of activities and explorations with free entry

Several proposals, designed to meet the public with the realities that will carry out their activities in these spaces.

• in the form of a game, curated by scintillae-play and learning in the digital age, project of Fondazione Reggio Children. Digital technologies and games meet the transforming identity of former Caffarri and, through combinations, animations and fantastic variations, investigate new possibilities between physical and digital world.

• Listening to matter, by Remida: "Whether it comes from a forest or a factory, be it tactile or sound, waste or digital, everything is matter that transforms itself and transforms us. And he has something to tell us, if we listen".
  

• in nature, curated by Pause Atelier dei Sapori, proposes explorations of the grammar of taste that spark curiosity through the different senses, for a new education to food and the flavor of food.
  

• in research, by the Doctorate in Reggio Childhood Studies, will offer the opportunity to dialogue with researchers who will accompany us, through questions and proposals, to discover unexplored possibilities: "To be in search for a better understanding of oneself and the world around us".
  

Two proposals come from the realities that will cohabit the Caffarri in adjacent spaces and participate in the day of celebration.

• in sound form, curated by Centro Teatrale MaMiMò, live sound performance between the Sonnets of Shakespeare and the sonorization of the opening space.
  

• in/against with the boxing by Reggiana Boxe, sports practice story and gym boxing activity.
  
  

"Un'architettura per la Fantastica" is part of the "50+1" program and mentions the Fantastica as "that art of inventing" to which Gianni Rodari was inspired in Reggio Emilia during the days from which the "Grammar of fantasy" was born.
