Launch of the 6th edition of the project ‘Inhabiting the Country-The Culture of Demand
On Thursday 18 January, MAXXI hosted the presentation of the results of the 5th edition of the project ‘Inhabiting the Country-The Culture of Demand’ on the theme ‘Activating Educating Communities: New Generations for a Future Project’ with the aim of strengthening the alliance between Architecture and Pedagogy in young people, starting from school contexts. At the same time, the VI edition was launched.

51st anniversary of the ‘Grammar of Fantasy’
Reggio Emilia celebrated the 51st anniversary of ‘The Grammar of Fantasy’ by proposing a rich calendar of initiatives entitled ‘50+1 Around Gianni Rodari's Grammar of Fantasy’, scheduled for 22, 23 and 24 March and 17 April 2024. An occasion to celebrate the anniversary of a book that has been a reference point for education and literature for children and, at the same time, to propose cultural events in the city of Reggio Emilia.

Fondazione Reggio Children presents the new education spaces at the Ex Caffarri
On Saturday 23 March, in Reggio Emilia, the new redeveloped spaces of the former Caffarri destined, starting in the autumn, for the research laboratories and educational activities of Fondazione Reggio Children, with the aim of deepening research topics related to quality education, solidarity, regeneration, social and environmental sustainability, and creative learning.

Fondazione Reggio Children participates in ‘From Climate Crisis to Climate Resilience’ summit
From 15 to 17 May 2024, President Carla Rinaldi took part in the summit dedicated to the topic of environmental crisis and resilience at the Casa Pio VI in the Vatican. The event, organised by Professor Marcelo Suàrez-Orozco and Veerabhadran Ramanathan with the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, was also attended by researchers, professors and religious leaders from all over the world.

Announcement of the seven new PhDs in Reggio Childhood Studies and Longlife Learning
On Thursday, 23 May 2024, in the ‘Kuwait’ room of the Malaguzzi International Centre, the theses of the 35th and 36th cycle PhD students from all over the world were discussed. Social inclusion in museums and the special educational needs of minors belonging to mafia families are some of the topics studied, assessed by the Selection Committee Carla Bagnoli, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Luisa Zecca, University of Milan Bicocca and Federica Malfatti, Universität Innsbruck (Austria).

Second Portuguese edition of the book ‘In Dialogue with Reggio Emilia
On 30 July, at the Italian Cultural Institute in São Paulo, author Carla Rinaldi dialogued with Ana Teresa Gaviao Mariotti, Director of Training at Fundação Antonio Antonieta Cintra Gordinho, to present the second Portuguese edition of the book ‘In Dialogue with Reggio Emilia’ published by Reggio Children in Italy and Penso Editora in Brazil.

Fondazione Reggio Children and the LEGO Foundation in Brazil to promote the P.E.R. project Play Explore Research
From 1 to 3 August 2024, the first appointment of the P.E.R. project of Fondazione Reggio Children - Loris Malaguzzi Centre, financed and shared by The LEGO Foundation, took place in São Paulo. The intent is to promote in the world the relationship between the right to play and the right to learning for all, together with the right to quality education. Three days entirely dedicated to international conferences, dialogues and comparisons between participants, supported by over 40 free workshops.

Getting closer to materials at the Remida Centre
On 20 and 21 September, at the Ex Mangimificio Caffarri, Remida proposed two days dedicated to deepening the philosophy of ecological education through an approach to materials. Educators, teachers and anyone curious about the potential of materials as an educational resource took part in the event.

Festa di quartiere all'Ex mangimificio Caffarri!
On Saturday 21 September, the inaugural party for the new Remida Centre and the research activities of Fondazione Reggio Children was held at the former fodder factory in Via Gioia in Reggio Emilia. The event, open to the entire city, involved various actors including the Reggio Children Bookshop, the Remida Reggio Emilia book exchange and a welcome point organised by the volunteers of the ‘Ascoltare Santa Croce’ Committee and the Pigal Circle, and a food&beverage corner organised by PAUSE Atelier dei Sapori.

The P.E.R. project Play Explore Research flies to South Africa!
On Thursday 10 October, the third international conference of the project on play and learning promoted by Fondazione Reggio Children and The LEGO Foundation took place in Johannesburg, focusing on the theme ‘Playful parenting and caring for children. Sharing experiences, learning and practices on early childhood education and well-being through play'.

Widespread School: workshops and dialogues with an international flavour
From 21 to 24 October, Fondazione Reggio Children hosted a delegation of 25 teachers from four European countries for four days entirely dedicated to training, dialogue, and exchange as part of Widespread School - Teaching Outside the classroom. The project was born within the framework of Erasmus+, led by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia with the aim of improving the quality of primary and secondary education in four European cities starting from Reggio Emilia to Zara, Girona and Espoo.

Inauguration of the 40th cycle of the PhD programme ‘Reggio Childhood Studies’ in Sala Tricolore
On Monday 11 November, at the Sala Tricolore of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the new doctoral students were presented and the new doctors celebrated. During the morning, various key figures in the world of education spoke, including Professor Annamaria Contini, Director of the UNIMORE Department of Education and Human Sciences, and Carla Rinaldi, President of Fondazione Reggio Children . A highlight was the lectio magistralis by Professor Edward Harcourt, of Oxford University, entitled ‘Keeping Morality in its Place: The Truth in Immoralism?’.

Architecture and pedagogy come together in the seventh edition of the ‘Abitare il Paese - La cultura della domanda’ project
On Thursday 28 November, the seventh edition of the ‘Abitare il Paese - La cultura della domanda’ project was held, born in 2018 from an alliance between the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators (CNAPPC) with Fondazione Reggio Children together with the network of the 105 provincial Orders of PPC Architects. This year, scholars from the world of schools and architecture shifted their focus to the theme ‘Activating educating communities: new generations, participation, cities’ with the aim of strengthening the school-city-territory network.

Presentation of the new governance of Fondazione Reggio Children
On Saturday 21 December, the new board of directors of Fondazione Reggio Children was presented to the press and the city. Francesco Profumo, former Minister of Education, Universities and Research and member of the Scientific Committee, as chairman, as councillors the author and historian Vanessa Roghi, Annamaria Contini of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Elena Bertolini of Cooperativa Sociale Accento, Valdemar Göthson of REI-Reggio Emilia Institutet and Giuseppe Zizzo of Diaverum Italia. Outgoing president Carla Rinaldi remained as honorary president.
