2011-2021: ten years with Fondazione
The collettive work created by children, students and citizens of Reggio Emilia with 1.000 LEGO Dots kits
For Fondazione Reggio Children a community is a living organism in continuous transformation, rich in many differences.
A system of people, but also of plants and animals, whose essential values are interdependence, solidarity and connection.
A community we are all invited to care for.
A thousand citizens, young and old, accepted the invitation by Fondazione Reggio Children to participate in the creation of a collective installation in Reggio Emilia to celebrate 10 years of Fondazione Reggio Children and 25 years of friendship between the city of Reggio Emilia and LEGO Group.
With the LEGO Dots kits - designed for this occasion by Fondazione Reggio Children with The LEGO Foundation and Riccardo Zangelmi, LEGO Certified Professional Italia - children, teens, schools and citizens were able to express their idea of living beings: like tiles of a mosaic, the contribution of each went to compose the collective work to represent a community that, also through play and creativity, becomes a community, takes care of itself and the world.
These ten years have changed and upset the world and our lives, asking for a profound search of meaning to create a brave and responsible future for the community of all living beings. This is the consideration that Fondazione Reggio Children wants to propose, celebrating the first decade and the ones to come, inviting the city to participate in a public installation, a collective installation, a mosaic, in which each one brings a piece of creativity.

Participation is a key concept for Fondazione Reggio Children, which has turned it into a tool to spread quality projects in the most diverse and challenging contexts. The collective installation with The LEGO Foundation, in which we invite citizens to participate, represents symbolically that essential link which exists between a community and childhood education, to design the future together starting from child citizens, above all today, in the face of challenges we have to confront, such as the pandemic and the climate emergency.

A significant birthday for the city. From the experience gained from years of collaboration with the LEGO® group in the development of artistic installations with bricks, as a Reggio native and as a professional, it is for me a great pleasure being able to collaborate and bring my contribution on the occasion of this important recurrence that is the 10-year anniversary of Fondazione Reggio Children.
This installation aims to unite children, families and citizens through the "invisible thread" of creativity, typical of the LEGO® brick and of living beings.

From the 15th till the 30th of September 2021 1000 kits were created in moments dedicated at scintillae, Remida Centre, Food in Chiostri and in the schools that have joined the project

The final collective work was officially presented on Saturday 9 October 2021 at the Chiostri di San Pietro in Reggio Emilia, in the presence of Luca Vecchi, Mayor of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Carla Rinaldi, president of Fondazione Reggio Children – Centro Loris Malaguzzi, Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen, CEO The LEGO Foundation and Riccardo Zangelmi, LEGO Certified Professional Italia.
Among those present, in the Danish delegation, was Kjedl Kirk Kristiansen, the third generation owner who led the LEGO group to success, of which he was CEO for 25 years.
The installation was open to the public until Sunday 24 October 2021.
